Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Z. Duterte visited Sta. Ana National High School, one of the biggest public high school institution in the city, on Thursday to look into the proliferation of gangs inside the said school.

The school sought the help of the city government after authorities observed the rising incidence of hooliganism in the school.

Duterte, who is the acting mayor now, said that his attention was caught when informed by the school authorities that one of the existing gangs is known as Huwag Igalang si Duterte Gang.

Duterte asked the school authorities to come up with the complete list of the existing gangs and their leaders. He said he plans on writing a letter to the parents of the gang leaders to inform them about their children’s involvement in gangs.

For the meantime, Duterte donated additional 17 CCTV cameras to the school. Last year he donated 3 CCTVs which, the school officials said, were a big help to the students’ security.

Sta. Ana. High School has about 8,000 students divided into 120 sections and with only 190 teachers and staff to look after them.

Last year, a high school student was killed by an elementary student right inside the Kapitan Tomas Monteverde Sr. Elementary School due to a said gang rivalry.
