With 7,568 registered participants to the simultaneous blowing of horns, the first-ever Torotot Festival here in Davao City surpassed the Guinness Record of 6,900 participating horn blowers currently held by Japan.
But organizers of the said event are not that quick in declaring, just yet, that they have indeed broken the Guinness World Record.
Arnold Dellosa of the Smart Telecom Inc. who organized the said event yesterday said they still have to submit official documents to Guinness for verification and confirmation if they have indeed conformed with the conditions set by Guinness.
The 12-hour event that started 1 p.m. yesterday until 1 this morning was held at Roxas Avenue. About 700 meters of Roxas Avenue was closed to traffic yesterday for the said event.
More than 200 police and traffic officers were also dispatched to secure the area.
No less than Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte attended the said event last night and joined thousands of Dabawenyos in simultaneously blowing their horns for ten seconds.
The mayor thanked the people for their cooperation with the city government’s decade-long firecracker ban. He said the Torotot Festival is a good and safer way of celebrating the coming of a new year compared to firecrackers and pyrotechnics.

I hope and pray….]
For those who were not able to attend the Torotot Festival, Dabawenyos in their respective homes were content with banging metals and blowing their horns as well in the company of their families.
