Thousands of Muslims and Christians have joined the simultaneous rallies held in various areas in Mindanao and Metro Manila Tuesday to drum up support for the passage of the Bangsamoro Basic Law which is now being shelved temporarily in Congress.
The rallies were held in Cotabato City, Davao City, General Santos City, Marawi City, Isabela City, Pikit in North Cotabato, Maguindanao, Jolo, and in Metro Manila.
Here in Davao City, the protesters converged as early as ten in the morning of February 10 and marched their way to the Rizal Park shortly before noontime.
Abdul Rasad Sawat, chairman of Davao Peace Movement, said the rally aims to show to the national government especially to Congress that the people of Mindanao is one in supporting the passing of the BBL to pave way for peace in Mindanao.
He urged the Lower House and the Senate not to shelve the congressional hearings for the BBL amidst the controversy surrounding the Mamasapano tragedy where 44 police commandos died in a gunbattle with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.
