Strong winds and heavy downpour of rain last Wednesday evening caused the destruction of 19 houses in Toril, Davao City. Residents in the area suspect that a tornado hit their place due to the vast destruction which normally happens only during typhoons.
The City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council said Thursday that 13 houses were partially damaged and one house totally damaged in Toril Poblacion. Two more houses were totally damaged and one partially damaged in Mcleod, Barangay Daliao; another one in Daliao Proper and one in Barangay Lizada were also declared to have been partially damaged.
The CDRRMC reported that several trees were either uprooted or have fell down on houses and other properties. No one was reported injured from the freak weather though.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration however said that the heavy downpour was caused by an intertropical convergence zone affecting Southern Mindanao.
