Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and former wife Elizabeth Zimmerman had a very public birthday date in a restaurant in Cebu Thursday, April 14, witnessed by more than a hundred friends and supporters.
Zimmerman and children, Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte and former mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, waited for almost three hours for their patriarch to arrive from Luzon where he is having campaign sortie.
Upon entering the restaurant around three in the afternoon that was filled with well-wishers since 11 a.m., Duterte was carrying a bouquet of flowers for Elizabeth who was already blushing as the crowd demanded for a kiss from the estranged couple.
Duterte gladly obliged the crowd’s wish as everyone in the restaurant giggle when the the couple kissed not just once but twice.
The Duterte children were obviously happy to see their parents together again after the annulment of their marriage back in 2000. Rodrigo and Elizabeth was married for 25 years and had produced three children with their youngest Sebastian who missed Thursday’s celebration as he was doing a parallel campaign in Luzon.
Asked of a possible “second chance” of their love affair, Mayor Duterte said his coming over just to greet his wife is already the start of their second chance.
Elizabeth meanwhile said that she never ceased being a wife to her husband despite the annulment of their marriage. She said their marriage in the Church was never dissolved thus she still consider the mayor as her husband, forever.
Duterte on the other hand called Elizabeth as his wife.
Mayor Duterte flew all the way from his Luzon sortie to spend just a little over an hour in Cebu with his family. After the celebration, Duterte flew back to Luzon for a sortie in Batangas and Cavite.
