A portion of the road leading to Abreeza Mall here in Davao City collapsed Saturday morning.
The ongoing construction of a high-rise condominium adjacent to the mall is being suspected as the reason behind the collapse which luckily happened before the mall’s opening hours.
Luigi Escano, Operations Manager of the Abreea Mall, said that the incident happened around eight in the morning of January 31.
Several meters of the road beside the ongoing Aeon Towers construction collapsed.
September of last year, this same portion of the road also subsided. Escano said the management of Aeon Towers shouldered the minor repairs made on the road that time.
LUIGI ESCANO, ABREEZA MALL OPERATIONS MANAGER
Escano said engineers from the Aeon Towers along with personnel of the City Engineers Office are still assessing the area right now.
He said Abreeza’s own structural engineers are to arrive in Davao on Sunday to do their own assessment on the soundness of their building.
This early though, Escano assured the public that the main building of the Abreeza Mall is structurally sound and is not affected by the road collapse considering that it is a separate building.
That is why, Escano said they remain in their normal operations. He said they also have rerouted the vehicles from one of their Bajada entrance to other areas to avoid congestion of vehicles.
Asked if they will be asking reparation from Aeon Towers for the damages made to their road, Escano said they are still assessing the situation and could not say for certain.
A reliable source said that during the meeting with Abreeza and CEO officials Saturday, Ian Cruz of Aeon Towers offered to shoulder all repair expenses to the damaged road.
The repair is expected to last for more than a month.
