Davao del Norte 2nd District Representative Antonio “Tonyboy” Floirendo Jr. has been appointed to the powerful Commission on Appointments along with Rep. Ronaldo Zamora of the lone district of San Juan City.
As of August 3, only Zamora and Floirendo had so far been appointed to the CA. The CA’s House contingent is composed of 12 solons with another 12 members from the Senate. The CA is headed by the Senate President.
The CA confirms appointments made by the President for heads of Executive Departments; Ambassadors, other Public Ministers and Consuls; Officers of the Armed Forces from the rank of Colonel or Naval Captain; Regular Members of the Judicial and Bar Council; Chairman and Commissioners of the Civil Service Commission; Chairman and Commissioners of the Commission on Elections; Chairman and Commissioners of the Commission on Audit; Members of the Regional and Consultative Commissions; and Chief of Philippine National Police.
Floirendo was the biggest contributor of President Rodrigo Duterte during the campaign. He donated P75 million to the campaign fund of Duterte who refused donations from big corporations and taipans from Manila.
Aside from Floirendo, other Dabawenyo getting plum post in the House committees is Davao City 1st Dist. Rep. Karlo Nograles who chairs the Committee on Appropriations earlier held by fellow Dabawenyo Isidro Ungab.
Dabawenyo Bayan Muna Rep. Carlos Isagani Zarate is also appointed as chair of the Committee on Natural Resources.
Davao del Norte 1st Dist. Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez was of course selected as House Speaker by an overwhelming majority.
