Outgoing Maribojoc Mayor Leoncio “Jun” Evasco is not keen on accepting any cabinet position in the administration of presumptive president Rodrigo Duterte.
Evasco was Duterte’s national campaign manager and is expected to be offered the Department of Interior and Local Government considering his background as mayor.
In a statement Wednesday, Evasco said that “to be nominated or shortlisted for the Sec. of Interior and Local Government would be a great honor for me, since not all will be given the chance to lead the department.”
“But I would like to clarify that I am not, and will not be interested of any cabinet post. I will always be grateful for the offer, and I will always serve our newly elected president and the filipino people in some other way, base on my capacity and skills. Thank you for the support, always willing to serve the people,” Evasco said.
Evasco’s decision was a surprise to many considering his contribution to Duterte’s landslide victory. Evasco once served as Duterte’s city administrator before deciding to run for mayor of Maribojoc, Bohol. He is in his last term thus deciding to help in Duterte’s campaign.
