Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte was fuming mad when asked of his reaction on Commission on Human Rights chair Etta Rosales’ advise for him to refrain from making comments on issues beyond his city.
Rosales earlier accused Duterte of being a bad influence for having supported the action of Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista who slapped a Chinese drug peddler last week.
Duterte was quoted as saying that Mayor Bautista was even too easy. The Davao City mayor said had it been him who was in that situation, he would have thrown the arrested Chinese drug pusher into the Davao Gulf and have the fish eat him alive.
Duterte’s statement, again, did not sit well with the CHR chair. Rosales urged Duterte not to chime in on the case of Mayor Bautista who is facing possible charges for slapping the drug suspect last week.
The CHR chief described Duterte as a “bad influence” to those who have no understanding on the rights of criminal suspects.
In an interview last night, Duterte said that if Rosales thinks that he is a bad influence, then the CHR chair is a “bad example”. The mayor said Rosales does not have the moral authority to lecture on people as she herself had been implicated in the alleged fund anomaly.

Duterte and Rosales had not been seeing eye to eye since Rosales became the CHR chair. Even when the CHR was still under incumbent Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, Duterte had also been at tiff with the CHR chair.
