President-elect Rodrigo Duterte is offering a reward of at least P50,000 to as much as P3 million for anyone who could could arrest or kill a person involved in illegal drugs.
In a press conference after meeting his cabinet in Davao City Tuesday evening, May 31, Duterte said that P50,000 will be the bounty for a small-time drug pusher, P1 million for a “supervisor” or a “manager” drug pusher, and P3 million for big-time druglords.
Duterte said the bounty is good whether the drug suspect is dead or alive. But he said that it must be however within the bounds of the law hinting that a shoot-to-kill order is lawful.
Duterte also revealed that he specifically ordered his newly-appointed head of the National Bureau of Investigation, Dante Gierran, to “personally kill” any agents he would discover to be involved in illegal drugs.
President-elect Duterte said that he would also be using the Armed Forces of the Philippines in the fight against illegal drugs with a specific function of running against police and other law enforcers who are involved in illegal drugs.
Duterte said he would also be asking Congress to amend the probation law to exempt drug cases. He said many drug pushers who were able to avail of the probation law have jumped bail and continued with their illegal activities.
Asked where the reward money would be sourced, Duterte said he still has enough fund from the election and would spend it all for the bounty. He said his extra cash could fund bounty for about 100 drug pushers and druglords.
“Ganun lang ang paraan para mahinto ang druga. Do not destroy our country, do not destroy our children because I will kill you,” Duterte said.
