President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday said that billionaire businessman Ricard King who was killed in Davao City on June 12, 2014 was involved in the illegal drug trade in the country.
In a press conference inside Malacañang July 7, President Duterte said that King was part of an international drug syndicate operating in the Philippines. The former Davao City mayor dispelled earlier suspicion that King was killed because of a love triangle.
Duterte also apologized to the King family for revealing the information in public with the subject no longer capable of defending himself from the accusation.
King, owner of the Crown Regency Group of Hotels and Vital C Health Products Inc. was also the President/CEO of Fuente Triangle Realty Development Corporation (FTRDC), whose multi-billion projects include Club Ultima, the Ultima Residences Fuente Tower and the Ultimate Residences Ramos Tower.
The 56-year old King was killed inside his office around seven in the evening. Gunman Paul Dave Labang however confessed his sins to the authorities along with his two cohorts Rommel and Rodel dela Cerna.
The three pointed at Police Superintendent Leonardo Felonia as the mastermind. They claimed that Felonia ordered them to liquidate King. The police official allegedly instructed them to look for King at his Vital C office in Bo. Obrero. And when Rommel confirmed King’s presence at the said building, Labang readily entered and shot the victim at the head.
Felonia however denied the allegations hurled against him. The four accused are now in the custody of the authorities while awaiting the resolution of the charges against them. The court hearing is still ongoing
In the same press conference, President Duterte also warned suspected druglord Peter Lim not to return to the Philippines. Duterte said that once Lim sets foot in the country he will surely die.
Duterte also warned jailed druglord Peter Co never to leave the confines of the National Bilibid Prison as he would also die for sure. The warning also goes to Herbert Colangco who is also incarcerated at the NBP.
As to how they would die, Duterte said it is immaterial.
The President publicly showed the matrix of bigtime illegal drug operators in the country which includes retired police general Marcelo Garbo whom he earlier identified along with four other police generals as drug protectors.
Included in the matrix, Duterte said, are several mayors whom he described as “persons of interest”.
