Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte lashed back at Justice Secretary Leila de Lima and challenged her to file a case against him in court. The feisty mayor also threatened the cabinet secretary with an administrative case for negligence of duty.

In a press conference Tuesday evening, May 26, Duterte ridiculed Sec. De Lima for easily believing that he admitted being behind the Davao Death Squad responsible for the more than 1,000 summary executions in the city since mid-90’s.

Duterte said his supposed admission was made to encourage all of his detractors to file a case against him in court so he could show to the world how stupid his detractors are.

The mayor also said that the DDS that he was referring to is not the Davao Death Squad but the Davao Development System that is responsible in making Davao a very progressive city now and one of the safest city in the world.

Duterte said de Lima has become the “barking dog” of the Aquino administration. The mayor said with de Lima’s latest tirade against him, their fight is now personal. He vowed to make de Lima’s life miserable from now on.

As initial salvo, Duterte said he is contemplating on filing a complaint against the justice secretary for negligence of duty. The mayor revealed that since last year, he already informed de Lima to look into the National Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa.

But Duterte said the justice secretary dilly-dallied until such time that the problem exploded right in front of them.

The mayor however admitted that he is spending good money on the authorities to run after illegal drug dealers in the city. But he denied ordering the police to kill all criminals.

Duterte said whatever he is doing for the good of his constituents is his call and that he is not answerable to anyone but the people who elected him. He urged de Lima to file a case against him in court and he would be very willing to answer them in the proper forum.
