Officials from the Davao City Government headed by Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte met with officials from the Shanghai City Government in China as well as other Chinese investors who are interested in buying Davao products or putting up business in Davao.
On Thursday, October 27, VM Duterte along with City Councilors Al Ryan Alejandre, Small Abellera, Bernard Al-ag, and Rene Elias Lopez paid a courtesy call at the Shanghai City Hall and met with Vice Mayor Chen Yin and other Shanghai city officials.
Shanghai officially welcomed the Davao officials and expressed their willingness for an economic bilateral agreement and possibly a sisterhood pact in the future.
VM Duterte on the other hand presented Davao’s economic potentials to the Shanghai officials who expressed interest on the aspects of agriculture and tourism.
Shanghai Vice Mayor Yin also expressed his city government’s support on the war on drugs of the Philippine Government saying that it is the primordial duty of the government to protect its people from the harmful effects of illegal drugs.
After the courtesy call, Duterte and his entourage were given a tour to the nearby Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center which showcases a large scale model of the entirety of urban Shanghai, showing existing buildings and approved future buildings.
Vice Mayor Duterte also met with private Chinese investors like the banana importers of Shanghai.
The Shanghai visit came a week after the successful state visit of President Rodrigo Duterte in Beijing where he went home with a $42 billion in aid and investments from China.
