No less than the Office of the President ordered the suspension of classes in Davao City due to non-stop rain since yesterday, February 15.
Though the suspension order is only good for Davao City, other neighboring areas experiencing the same inclement weather condition have followed suit in suspending classes.
Based on the advisory issued by the Department of Education in Region 11, classes are suspended in:
– Davao City
– Compostela Valley province
– Malita, Davao Occidental
– Mati City, Davao Oriental
– Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur
Tagum City Mayor also ordered for classes in all levels, suspended. Including preemptive evacuation in some areas.
Davao del Norte Governor Anthony Del Rosario has followed in declaring suspension of classes in primary and secondary levels in private and public schools all over Davao del Norte.
In Davao City, the Matina Crossing Barangay Council has already made the second alarm and is now resorting to preemptive evacuation for residents near the Matina riverbanks specifically in Arroyo compound and most probably in Gravahan areas as well.
It can be recalled that the Arroyo compound in Matina was one of the most affected areas during a flashflood in 2011 where more than 20 people died.
In Compostela Valley, the Compostela-Cateel road specifically Km.1603+020 in Barangay Ngan, Compostela town collapsed around six this morning. An estimated 1,200 cubic meter of earth debris has covered the road rendering it close to traffic.
Authorities are clearing the area as of this writing.
